In 2019, the world was hit with a devastating pandemic, COVID-19. Lockdown and travel restrictions had major economic repercussions for most sectors of business. Vulnerable populations faced higher risks of economic exclusions. This was an unfortunate reality for most African countries. Income disparities widened as many lost their livelihoods. The pandemic took its toll on mental health for many Africans, due to fear, uncertainty, and social isolation.
With these challenges in mind, Africa had no choice but to look at the new normal, posed by the pandemic, with an open mind and sight. Remote work, which was still a foreign concept to most, suddenly became a solid point of reference. An inherent need for skills development in this environment became essential for Africa.
A seed for Africa Remote Academy Ltd. was planted at the height and plight of the pandemic to bridge the need for training Africans in remote skills, to create remote employment opportunities, and to fill the digital divide gap. Covid-19, with its atrocities, opened new windows of thinking for security during unprecedented and ungovernable times.
In August 2023, the vision was realized. Africa Remote Academy was born.
